23/04/2025, Tatiana Tsepkina and Leonid Karpov attended a round table discussion “Topical issues of Improving and applying Arbitration legislation” organized by the Russian Bar Association. The meeting, which took place in the building of the Academic Council of the Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL), was attended by chairpersons of arbitration courts, authoritative legal scholars, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Justice, federal judges of courts of general jurisdiction and commercial (arbitration) courts, lawyers, and experts whose professional expertise includes issues related to the functions of support and oversight of arbitration courts. The event was moderated by Peter Ilyichev, Chairman of the AYUR Arbitration Commission.
During the reports, positive trends in the development of arbitration proceedings in Russia were noted: an increase in the number of cases handled by arbitration courts, the quality of alternative justice, and an increase in the diversity of jurisdictions involved in litigation. Among the problems mentioned is the lack of electronic document management between state courts and arbitration courts. The unique legal nature of arbitration, its reform and new development trends allow us to conclude about its potential and prospects for improvement.
Speaking about the event, Tatiana Tsepkina, Head of L&P’s Bankruptcy and Subsidiary Liability Practice, noted: “L&P lawyers are actively involved in the development and popularization of alternative dispute resolution. Since April 2022, Alexander Linnikov, Leonid Karpov and Tatiana Tsepkina have been acting arbitrators of the Arbitration Center at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.”
“Our team has a very interesting experience of participating in arbitration proceedings as arbitrators and representatives of the parties, both in Russia and abroad. Our practice confirms that the parties to transactions increasingly include arbitration clauses in draft contracts or conclude arbitration agreements, since arbitration ensures the confidentiality of dispute resolution, which is especially important under current sanctions,” says Leonid Karpov, Attorney-at-Law, head of L&P Civil and Arbitration Law Practice.
