On 18/04/2023, the founder of L&P made a comment on the radio station “BUSINESS FM” about the work of the Central Bank on creating an alternative to “MIR” payment cards, which will allow Russians to freely make purchases abroad. The Bank of Russia plans to create a system of “gateways” with foreign payment systems and is negotiating with a number of foreign countries, including Turkey, one of Russia’s most active partners.
“Two main options are being discussed now — prepaid cards, as well as cards of payment systems of other states. The so-called “gateway system” means that there will be a cut-off link between a Russian bank and a foreign one, making the origin of funds credited to a foreign prepaid card or to a card of a foreign payment system opaque to outside observers, including the US financial authorities. We are talking about creating a kind of VPN system for bank cards, when the origin of funds and their owner will not always be obvious in the countries in which these funds are spent”, — says Alexander Linnikov.
